Twickenham Nursery

Our Nursery in Twickenham

Intimate, warm and nurturing environment

We are situated in a beautiful period property, converted into a nursery providing an intimate, warm and nurturing environment to care for our children. The nursery is divided into different classrooms each one designed to look after children of a specific age group.

Child's Development

When children are ready to progress into their next classroom, we consider their age, developmental progress, have a discussion with parents and jointly decide when the correct time would be to make this transition. Children are provided with settling in sessions to get used to their new room before making a permanent move.

Our Environment

Tic Toc Nursery in Twickenham

The nursery has 4 main rooms and children have a settling-in session in the first instance. Although each room is primarily designed for a specific age group, children transition to the next classroom only when the time is right for them. This decision is a joint one made by parents and staff, including a ‘Key Person’ who is assigned to each child.

Panda Room – Up to 21 months

The Panda Room provides a warm, cosy, and nurturing space for our youngest children, offering a balance of stimulation and relaxation. With soft carpeted floors and a dedicated sleep area, it’s an ideal environment for both play and rest.

Children enjoy a variety of activities designed to spark curiosity and development, such as individual play, sensory activities, and treasure basket exploration. Quiet time for naps is also an important part of the day, allowing for restful moments in a peaceful setting.

In addition to our core activities, all age groups, including those in the Panda Room, take part in Juma Music sessions. These music sessions are designed to stimulate creativity, rhythm, and language development through songs and interactive activities.

We are also proud to be incorporating elements of the Curiosity Approach, focusing on creating hands-on, child-centered experiences that promote independent thinking and exploration. While we are developing this approach throughout the nursery, it is currently being predominantly implemented in the Panda Room.

Penguin Room – 21 months to 26 months

The Penguin Room is designed for younger toddlers who are beginning to explore the world around them through walking and movement. This vibrant and stimulating space encourages independence, mobility, and the development of key skills.

In this room, children engage in creative play and activities that foster language development, social interaction, and confidence-building. From role play to interactive games, every activity is tailored to support growing curiosity and social skills.

As part of our enriching learning experiences, all age groups, including those in the Penguin Room, participate in Juma Music sessions. These musical activities help to enhance communication, rhythm, and cognitive development in a fun and engaging way.

Dolphin Room – 27 months to 36 months

The Dolphin Room is designed for older toddlers, providing a vibrant space where children can engage in a range of learning and play activities. With various areas dedicated to different types of play, this room fosters social skills, cooperation, and independent learning.

Children participate in structured play and group activities that encourage exploration, peer interaction, and early learning experiences in a supportive environment. These activities are designed to enhance communication, social development, and curiosity.

We are also excited to share that Forest School will be introduced to the Dolphin Room in the summer term. This outdoor learning experience will provide children with opportunities to explore nature, develop practical skills, and grow in confidence.

In addition, all age groups, including those in the Dolphin Room, take part in Juma Music sessions, where children enjoy engaging in music and movement to support rhythm, language, and cognitive development.

Our Environment
Sensory Room

Our dedicated sensory room allows a place to get away from it all. This can either be a place to dance and sing along with our multi-coloured bubble tubes, or a place to relax and unwind! The children love visiting the sensory room, with even our younger babies requesting to see the ‘bubbles’!

Outdoor Play
Our Outdoor Environment

We are fortunate to have a large outdoor space that provides a stimulating environment for children to explore, play and learn. Through our daily activities we plan for children to be outside for significant amounts of time. During the warmer months, our doors remain open allowing children to have open access to the garden.

Our garden comprises of:
• a Forest School area – allowing children to play in a more natural environment, including a mud kitchen.
• a purpose-built animal house – currently housing our own Tic Toc reared chickens
• a soft-surfaced sports area
• covered areas to allow activities to take place outside, no matter the weather!
• a sandpit
• a dedicated play area for our babies
• a vegetable patch

Spending time outdoors is a great way to help children manage risks and to learn about the world around them. We have therefore, carefully planned areas in our garden to ensure that children have lots of opportunities to learn, by playing in different ways.
