The EYFS Framework

At Tic Toc Nursery School, we provide learning and development as set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The EYFS sets out the areas of learning that every child should develop in and therefore forms the basis of our curriculum.

The areas of learning are:

  • communication and language
  • physical development
  • personal, social and emotional development
  • literacy
  • mathematics
  • understanding the world
  • expressive arts and design

We strongly believe that the Early Years are the right time to lay the foundations for promoting excellence in all areas of a child’s life to help reach their true potential. Therefore as part of our curriculum we also nurture each child’s holistic well-being!

We do this by:

Co-Curricular Activities at Tic Toc

We provide a variety of classes, run by trained professionals, throughout the year which are all included in our fees. These include:

  • Weekly Football classes currently run by Sports4Kids
  • Weekly music classes run by specialist teachers
  • Regular Forest School provided by our own Tic Toc Forest school qualified practitioners
  • Regular Cookery classes provided by in our house Tic Toc chef
Our Core Values

The teaching of values strongly aligns with our belief in developing the holistic well-being of every child and meets our expectation for every child to be; kinder and more compassionate, develop a strong moral compass and a drive to become social ambassadors for the future!

Phonics

From speaking to reception teachers in local schools we found that the teaching of basic phonics at Pre-School is a skill that is advantageous and equips children with confidence when starting school. It is also a step towards helping children reach their Early Learning Goals, which are assessed at the end of the Reception year.

In Pre-School we start to introduce more formalised small group teaching activities to help get children ready for school, including phonics and some home learning!  Our Pre-School team have undergone specialist training in the Read, Write Inc phonics scheme and deliver teaching of the basic sound sets.

Our Forest School

Our weekly Forest School sessions are run by our own, in-house Forest School practitioners for our older children. The classes allow them to learn from everything that nature has to offer, all in a local forest environment. As well as being exciting and fun, they allow children to become more self-confident and independent and to improve skills like decision-making & appraisal of risk along the way.

How we teach our curriculum

We inspire and teach our children through a wide range of play opportunities and experiences, using a balance of both adult-led and child-led activities.

Adult-led activities are stimulating activities that have been carefully planned by our practitioners to ensure children are developing in all areas of our curriculum. Our practitioners ensure that children learn to play in a variety of ways to maximise their full learning potential.

Child-led activities are chosen by the child and led by them. We provide a nurturing environment and rich resources to encourage children to play independently choosing their own interests. Through these periods of free-play children develop their social skills and language.
